The Rough Guide to Kent (and online Cool Places) says: "...the Watchtower ... an arty, one-room hideaway just footsteps from the shingle, is such a welcoming place. The building itself is as quirky as any on the headland, based around a concrete lookout post dating back to Napoleonic times, and extended now to include modern living quarters and a conservatory. The one guestroom is a cosy twin, with an en-suite, jauntily nautical bathroom. ... it has its own private entrance, and you get the sunny conservatory and weatherbeaten back garden, filled with arty flotsam and jetsam, all to yourself. You can linger here for hours, keeping warm and toasty on cool days in the conservatory, curling up with one of the many local books on offer, or, when it's sunny, taking a drink into the garden to enjoy the iconic power station views and vast Dungeness skies. The conservatory is where you eat your large continental breakfast ... you can boil eggs and make your own toast while sipping fresh-brewed coffee and gazing at the views. Food is fairtrade and organic where possible. Dungeness has a rich artistic community, of course, and the Watchtower is no exception. ..." Copyright Samantha Cook
